Tooth Extraction

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is considered a fundamental and necessary procedure in dentistry, used to address cases where other treatments cannot resolve the issues, impacting the comfort and overall oral health.

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction involves the removal of a single tooth or multiple teeth from their position in the jaw.

This procedure may be necessary to create space for other treatments such as orthodontics or dental implants.

The extraction is performed using specialized instruments to ensure the tooth is removed safely and effectively, minimizing damage to the surrounding tissues.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is performed to address issues such as:

  • Deep dental caries.
  • Advanced periodontal disease.
  • Severely broken or damaged teeth.
  • Teeth that obstruct the proper placement of orthodontic braces.
  • Infections or abscesses in the tooth root that may cause further damage.
  • Teeth that are irreparably damaged even with conventional treatment methods.

Types of Tooth Extraction

The types include:

  • Simple Extraction: This is performed under local anesthesia and involves the removal of teeth that are easily accessible.
  • Surgical Extraction: This requires an incision in the gum to remove the tooth and is typically used for impacted teeth or those that need to be sectioned before extraction.

Procedure for Tooth Extraction

The steps are as follows:

  • The dentist assesses the condition of the tooth and the mouth using X-rays and clinical examinations.
  • Local anesthesia is administered to the area around the tooth to minimize pain during the procedure.
  • Specialized tools are used by the dentist to loosen and maneuver the tooth from its socket, followed by gentle removal.
  • After extraction, the site is cleaned and sterilized to prevent infection.
  • The patient receives instructions for caring for the extraction site to avoid complications and promote healing.
