Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment aims to save and restore teeth that have been damaged due to the progressive wear of the tooth layers caused by severe decay. This procedure is necessary when decay advances to penetrate the outer layers of the tooth and reaches the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels.

Infected root canals typically cause severe pain, prompting patients to visit a dentist for treatment.

Steps of Root Canal Treatment

The process of root canal treatment typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour and may include the following steps:

  • An X-ray of the affected tooth is taken to determine an appropriate treatment plan
  • The dentist numbs the area around the tooth by local Anesthesia
  • Special tools are used to create an access cavity to reach the root canals and measure their length.
  • The dentist cleans and disinfects the root canal cavity.
  • The root canal cavity is sealed with either a temporary or permanent filling.

Is Root Canal Treatment Painful?

Many patients are concerned about pain and discomfort associated with root canal treatment. However, modern advancements in dental technology have significantly reduced discomfort. The integration of advanced technology into root canal procedures has greatly improved precision, efficiency, and patient comfort.

At Dr. Wael Ramadan’s clinics (ProCare Dental Clinics), we use three highly advanced devices for root canal treatments, including a dental microscope. This tool allows us to view detailed images of the teeth up to 32 times magnification, enabling us to identify all nerve canals and detect any issues. One common reason for treatment failure and recurrent inflammation is the inability to fully visualize all nerve canals, a problem that can be easily avoided with this advanced tool.
